Water Pump Seals - Sherco 1999>2022, Scorpa 2010>2022

These seals may be required if coolant is getting into the gearbox oil turning it into a white emulsion or oil or water is leaking from the check hole just under the water pump. The shaft can sometimes be worn in the seal contact areas hence the possible need for a replacement shaft as well.

Viton seals now available, we'd recommend the Viton (brown coloured) to seal the coolant side and the cheaper Nitrile seal (Black) on the Gear Box Oil side but you could happily use the Viton seal on both sides.
On many bikes the clutch case casting was just machined and not debured or chamfered, this has left a very small burr which can cut the new seal. As the Viton seal is a tighter fit than the old seal we recommend using some 400 grit wet and dry abrasive paper to just break this sharpe corner where the seal enters it's housing to help it go in without ripping the seal, we also lubricate the seal (inside and outside) with silicone grease before fitting.

We've had this Viton seal manufactured as since 2017 the Sherco water pump is driven by a higher gear ratio which increased the speed the water pump shaft runs at.
The Viton material has a higher temperature resistance and allows higher surface speeds at the point of sealing so it was recommend by the seal manufacturer as the best material to use.
The manufacturer also recommend we use a higher pressure seal and stainless steel for the garter spring to prevent any corrosion issues.
